Hey Josh. Loved the episode and found the interview fascinating. Will definitely check out the book. This conversation reminded be a bit about the movie "Advice & Consent" from 1962. I think the movie is quite ahead of its time in terms of talking about homosexuality in Washington. (Fun fact, it's considered to be the first film in American history to actually show a gay bar on the big screen.) It can be a bit dense of a movie in terms of the plot being partially about Senate procedure, but for a political nerd like yourself I think you'd enjoy the film (if you have not already seen it).

Good episode. I enjoyed Kirchick’s discussion with Nick Gillespie as well. The only thing that puzzled me was Kirchick’s response about Joe McCarthy maybe being gay. Just five minutes earlier he talked about there being no evidence from a journalistic standpoint that J Edgar Hoover was gay. Then, he presents the rumors and insinuations from other Washington elites that McCarthy was gay. So is there actual evidence that McCarthy was gay or isn’t there?
