By demanding the purification of the individual and branding broad swathes of the public as oppressor classes, 'Woke 1' besmirched the average Americans who Democrats once championed.
Yep, those were the days... Josh focuses on a few of the more ludicrous aspects of Woke I (as it's now referred to) but there were a lot more sinister aspects of the whole thing than these. Such as prioritizing medical care based on an insane desire to "correct past wrongs," essentially - condemning those with "privilege" to wait for medicine like the Covid vaccination while prioritizing "BIPOC+" people over everyone else.
Woke isn't gone, we have plenty of evidence of that. Woke 1 indicates you think we are either in or going to have a woke 2 period. What does that look like?
Well it's not quite the same thing as wokeness but:
1. Cops killed a guy in Minnesota, therefore the police must be destroyed and policing is harmful and immoral. Doesn't matter what the consequences, this is a moral imperative beyond any calculation.
2. ICE killed a guy in Minnesota, therefore ICE must be abolished and immigration enforcement is harmful and immoral. Doesn't matter what the consequences, this is a moral imperative beyond any calculation.
Conservatives do the same thing ("an immigrant killed a woman in Georgia, therefore . . .") but it's no surprise that the same people who did 1 are now doing 2.

Response to Kyle Rittenhouse verdict was when I was done w/ Woke 1. Got into fights w otherwise smart lawyers who shoulda known better abt his innocence. Facts were plain but they didn’t care. They kept pointing to systemic bias in the crim justice system.
They were essentially arguing white men get away with stuff generally and black men don’t, so finding Rittenhouse guilty was kinda necessary to correct the balance or something. These are lawyers who are otherwise really sharp arguing there’s basically an “oppressor” carveout to the Due Process clause
I would like to see a recording of Race to Dinner. Every interview of Saints Roa makes clear no sane human would want to interact with her - she comes off as extremely unpleasant and difficult to be around. She was clearly deeply offended when journalists would ask her obvious and fair questions. Anyone who pays for this service might have a kink, or deep self loathing.
As for Rittenhouse thing - clearly he made terrible decisions, but the law and facts were on his side. The fact that significant portions of Kenosha was razed suggests many terrible decisions were made that day. What was really striking to me was that everyone who followed MSNBC/NPR/etc… seemed to believe the people he shot were black, when they were white.
I did not realize the extent of the dogpile on the actual kid from Covington- that was certainly eye-opening.
I continue to be annoyed about how a critical detail in that story was lost in the general conversation - which is that Sandmann was initially arguing with the “12 tribes of Israel are Mexicans, Dominicans, etc.” guys, whom you may have seen in Times Square at some point. Those guys are legitimately bigots and idiots, and it is *fine* to clown on them. Then everything got out of hand when the guy with the drum got involved.

I'm fortunate that someone got it in my head that "woke is a surveillance state," when it comes to online dogpiles. Even if I agree with the ideas, that they'd go back and grab old tweets and drag you for them seemed really terrible to me. But then when the attacks came for kids like the Covington kids and Rittenhouse that also gave me another good knock to the head. It's wild to say children are part of some immense evil.

The “greatest hits” must include the municipal worker fired because his hand, leaning out of the side of his truck, supposedly made the “ok” symbol.
